PREP NEWS
Our new FAMILY CATECHESIS PREP program meets in-person on the first Tuesday of each month during the school year from 5:30-6:40pm…Since parents are the primary educators of their children in faith [Catechism of the Catholic Church #2223], on the first Tuesday, children learn in-person in their grade classrooms from catechists in our old school building, while the DRE teaches parents/guardians meanwhile in our Chapel below Church. Then, the last 3 weeks of each month, parents teach their own child(ren) at home. Students take and email the online chapter quizzes to DRE for assessment. Since PREP is NOT simply head-knowledge, there is also the requirement that families sign-in for attending at least 6 Masses during the year, and at least 1 PREP Confession [either Advent or Lent].
The PREP Office is accepting re-registrations (as well as registrations for new PREP students) in Levels 1 through 7 for the 2024-2025 school-year. If you are new to the parish and would like to register your child for PREP, you must first register as a parishioner in OLF. If your child was not baptized in OLF Parish you will need to bring a copy of his/her baptismal certificate from the parish of baptism when you register. Tuition for 2024-2025 is $125.00 for one child; $175.00 for two and $225.00 for three or more children. Registration forms are available on the table in the PREP binder at the front of Church, or may be emailed or postal-mailed to you.
A child who is coming from a Catholic school or another PREP must also have some record of past attendance and Grade or Level completed. No child from another parish will be admitted to OLF PREP without a letter of permission from the pastor in the parish in which you are registered and permission granted by the pastor of OLF.
Preparation for Sacraments requires two years of attendance in PREP. 1st Penance and 1st Holy Communion are received in Level 2 and require attendance in Level 1 [or passing Archdiocesan test]. Confirmation is received in Level 7 or 8 and requires attendance in Level 6 at least, but may require another year of preparation as well.
We have several AMAZING new volunteer teachers and aides, but could definitely use more [you only need to be available about 10-12 hours TOTAL per year!]. Please contact our DRE for more information about VOLUNTEERING.
If you would like to schedule an appointment or have any questions, please call the rectory at 610-532-5800.
